The Most Important Questions to Ask Before Booking Your Newborn or Family Photographer
By Linda Clarke Photography – Newborn & Maternity Photographer, Newcastle, Co. Dublin

Choosing the right photographer for your family isn’t just about pretty pictures. It’s about trust, safety, experience, and a style that fits with your vision. Whether you’re planning a newborn session, a maternity shoot, or family portraits, asking the right questions makes all the difference — especially when you're inviting someone to capture some of life’s most meaningful moments.
At Linda Clarke Photography, I’ve worked with hundreds of families across Dublin, Kildare, and Wicklow, and I know how important it is for parents to feel confident and informed before they book.
Here are some of the most essential questions to ask your photographer — and why they matter:

Do you offer advice on what to wear?
Absolutely! The right outfit can bring your session together beautifully. I provide plenty of guidance and inspiration so you know what photographs well in studio lighting and complements my signature neutral style. If you’re planning a maternity photoshoot in Dublin or a family portrait session, I’m here to help you choose outfits that feel timeless and authentic.

Are you insured?
This one is often overlooked, but it’s really important. Professional insurance means you're protected in case something unexpected happens, and it shows your photographer takes their business — and your safety — seriously. At Linda Clarke Photography, I’m fully insured, giving you peace of mind from start to finish. I am also a member of the IPPVA (https://ippva.com/p/lindaclarke/), which ensures that I adhere to professional standards at all times!

Roughly how many edited images will I receive?
Knowing what to expect ahead of time can help you plan for prints, wall art, or albums. After your session, you’ll receive a beautifully edited gallery with a selection of timeless images to choose from — all lovingly retouched by hand in my signature style. Each of my packages will let you know the minimum amount of images you can expect from each session. Between you and me though I'm an over shooter and there is nearly always a lot more !!

Are you trained in newborn safety?
Newborn photography is about more than just the camera. Your baby’s safety is always the top priority. I’ve completed specific newborn safety training and I follow baby-led posing techniques, meaning we always work around your baby’s comfort and needs. If they don't like it, we don't do it. Baby's comfort is soooo much more important than a specific shot!

What kind of backdrops and styling do you offer?
My studio in Newcastle, Co. Dublin is designed with simplicity and softness in mind — a calm and welcoming space where you and your family can truly relax. I use natural tones, soft textures, and gentle styling to ensure your baby is always the star of the image. You can choose from relaxed, natural shots or more gently styled setups using simple, elegant wraps and blankets. I always follow the baby’s lead, so everything we do is guided by their comfort.
For maternity sessions, the styling is equally thoughtful. My goal is to help you feel beautiful, strong and serene while you're growing new life. I provide a carefully curated wardrobe of studio dresses in flattering shapes and timeless colours that photograph beautifully. These pieces are designed to celebrate your bump without overwhelming your figure, and I’ll gently guide you through posing so everything feels comfortable and natural.
Whether you prefer a more artistic, silhouette-style maternity look or a soft and elegant portrait, we’ll work together to create images that feel like you. My backdrops are simple and neutral, drawing the focus to your connection with your baby — whether they’re still growing inside you or already in your arms.
This soft, minimalist style is a signature of Linda Clarke Photography and is ideal for anyone looking for maternity or newborn photography in Dublin, Wicklow or Kildare that will stand the test of time.

What’s your turnaround time for the full gallery?
I know how excited you are to see your images! Typically, your full gallery will be ready within 2 weeks. I’ll keep you updated throughout, and your gallery will be delivered online for easy viewing and selection.

Can I be in the photos too?
Of course! Whether you want to be included in your newborn’s session, or you’re looking for a family or maternity photoshoot in Dublin with older siblings, I’ll gently guide you through relaxed and natural posing so you feel confident and connected. I really do encourage you to get involved, if we don't shoot it, then its not there for you to choose. Family members rarely regret being included but will often regret not being included x
Fur babies are also very welcome to join in too, they are a big part of your family!!
